The Rocca di San Paolino is located in Ripafratta, a hamlet in the San Giuliano Terme (PI) municipality. It is remembered in medieval historiography for the events that affected it when it was an important military outpost of the Republic of Pisa. The first construction phase dates back to the 12th century and the walls, equipped with towers, were completed in the 14th century. The last modernisation works date back to the 16th century, before the progressive abandonment and the privatisation of the fortress during the 17th century. The complex system of fortifications of Ripafratta also includes the nearby Niccolai and Centino towers, the current Ripafratta bell tower and two further towers, of which only a few remains are preserved: the Mucchietto tower and an anonymous tower called Quota 117 in some sources. Today the Salviamo la Rocca association is committed to cultural dissemination and recovery strategies for the Rocca, together with the Municipality of San Giuliano Terme.

The excursion includes a guided tour of the Rocca and a walk through the village.
